We constructed a new two-story accessory building in Austin's historic Hyde Park Neighborhood to complement the style of the original World War II era main house. The building contained two 450-square-foot studios (one upstairs and one down). To create a vintage feel in newly constructed units, we incorporated reclaimed doors and windows, hardwood floors, and metal cabinets from a 1960's university chemistry lab. We then furnished both units for a total of less than $6,000 in 2012 and rented them short-term through Airbnb and VRBO until we sold the property. VRBO selected the property to appear in one of their television commercials during the superbowl.
